Jack White, Won't You Be My Neighbor

Much has been published and blogged about Jack White's (The Raconteurs and The White Stripes) move to Nashville. All I can say is that we're overjoyed to have the rocker here in Music City. Sorry Detroit.

White bought a home in Nashville and realty records show the house and nearly seven acres changed hands in December '05 for $3.1 million. The best thing is that he's had the chimneys and front door painted Jack White signature red and the outbuildings painted with theme colors (grey, red, yellow). The 1910 home has gained a new flair.

I've so been rocked by Mr. White's work from the Stripes to Cold Mountain to Van Lear Rose to The Raconteurs to The Simpsons. I've been listening for my doorbell...

When I drove my brother (from Athens, GA) and younger son Harry by the White house on Sunday, my kid declared that he wanted to trick-or-treat at the Jack White home. If the gate is open on October 31, we're going to pay a visit. I bet his house is gonna rock on Halloween.

When is that cookout again?

Dude- don't publish the location of his house- the poor guy is trying to live privately and has lots of crazy fans

That's specifically why I didn't mention the street address.

I hope Jack gave you permission to reprint such personal information. If not, you may have crossed a line.

This is like a gossip paparazzi report, with a photo to boot. And Rolling Stone picked up on this? Shame on you.

you should be ashamed of yourself.

how dare you invade someone’s privacy like this? i hope someone comes to your house and takes a picture of you steeped in your sorry, empty life as you pathetically try to cling to someone else’s celebrity. this is deplorable. just because someone makes music is not an invite into their personal space and existence. you may not have mentioned the street address, but i bet your sorry loud mouth is saying it all over town. maybe you should try spending quality time with your family instead of filling your hours with this crap. and i am sure there is not a chance in hell you are welcome anywhere near this house, on halloween or not. shame on you- get a life. how disgusting you are! you are a disgrace to nashville.

Jack White is famous and Kelly's comments weren't inflammatory, defammatory or inaccurate. He doesn't need permission nor does Mr. White get the same privacy protections the rest of us do. It's how press are allowed to publish pictures of famous people shopping in L.A. or of George Clooney's home in Italy. Oh, and the sales information is public record, for what that's worth. Read the whole post, Kelly is clearly a fan and meant no disrespect or harm. Chill.

I live in Nashville. And so has this dude for quite a while.
The only people who care about this are freshman vandy girls. And the odds of them finding a house without a keg are slim to none.
I go by Ben Folds' house almost every day. It's not a big deal around here.
He's fine.

Wow, Marianne, I think you're the pathetic one. Your vicious, uncontrolled outburst is what's scaring me the most. Consider the facts here:

A) It's fairly common knowledge that Jack has moved to Nashville

B) It is COMPLETELY, 100% legal to drive past a house in your town and take a picture of the OUTSIDE of it.

C) If Jack (or whoever that was who was captured in the picture) is outside his house painting his door, he is just as likely to be captured in a photo of said house as anyone else walking by would be.

I don't think Kelly is trying to stalk him, and I think it's pretty obvious that Kelly is just a fan who was relaying a cute bit of local information on his blog to brighten everyone's day. And look what you've turned it into. YOU'RE the one who needs to get a life; stop slamming people on their own blogs.

Marianne needs to remove the stick from the ass. Chill out! Jack rox and Kelly is only trying to display his feelings about him! Welcome to Nashvegas Jack. Marianne, pop in a midol or two.

Giulia, very simply, thank you.

you should take this link down. you've inflamed
enough people about it. it is an invasion of the
man's privacy. and you shouln't have listed
how much it cost either. not cool.

god, how people love to overreact.

do they think it's only okay for other celebs to have their houses gawked at by the public because jack is too good for that? please.

if you don't want to be gawked at don't buy such a big house.

please. all people have the same right to privacy, regardless of what they do, where they live, or what color their door is. yes, this is legal. yes, home transactions are a matter of public record. but that doesn't make it ethical or moral. this could have easily been a discussion of kelly being excited about a person whose music he likes moving to town- not a listing, a reference to an area of nashville, and above all, not a photograph.
kelly may be 'just a fan,' but why drive by the guy's house and take the time to wait for him to come out, and take a picture, bring it home, transfer it to a blog, and write out all this other information you dug up? why?
a fan is someone who allows the music to stand for itself- that's why jack releases records, not autobiographies and not maps to his house.
this is no longer local- rollingstone.com is open to thousands, millions of people, maybe even crazy ones who would wish a celebrity harm and are just waiting for some local person to screw up like this. and keep in mind that most of us here would have never even heard of this if it weren't national. and i'm sure that's not what kelly intended- he doesn't strike me as a bad guy- but he has not considered the ramifications of where this could lead. people get stalked, shot, run over, and sometimes killed because of the mechanism behind things like this- and they did not ask for that by playing some chords. kelly is asking for his place in the sun, too- he doesn't have to post any of these comments- the ones slamming or in support of him. what is legal and covered under free speech isn't always right, people.
this is nothing but another example of how lost and empty our celebrity crazed culture has become- and those of us who understand that are trying to wake up those of you who don't seem to- hence why people are posting asking it to be removed, and we've all gotten fired up. this is about all celebrities- not just this one, or this incident. honestly, ask yourself, why do you care? none of you can answer me that with a real reason as to why this is either necessary or acceptable. or why you have nothing better to do. i care because you could be making life better for all of us, too, and you can't you see that i'm trying to get you off your duffs and out into the world somewhere other than a famous person's doorstep. it disgusts me that this has gone on this long and turned into (as of now)15 comments on the matter. how elitist, for all of us, myself included.
music is what is important here- not the home, family, and daily life of the person behind it- that is none of your business. period.
this is what brightens your day? god. learn to play a guitar yourself! enrich your own life. if things like this stop, so will the endless pursuit of famous individuals and your obsessive attitudes about it, and better yet, maybe we can all get something worth doing done out there.
oh, and way to resort to misogyny due to lack of a concrete argument, g.

It was purely by chance that there was a person outside painting the door. I didn't wait for that to happen, nor was I sure that it was Jack.

Well said marianne, i agree 100% its so sad that kelly was so dumb to post this. Its childish maybe his intentions are harmless but like the white Stripes song goes...take take take. We can never get enough of celebrities these days. Come on leave Jack alone he didn't move to nashville to be stalked. He didnt chase fame it came to him because of his music. he's not asking for folks to knock on his door and if you did i would bet you'd get an angry man in your face Jack has made comments on how he loaths his privacy being invaded.

People -- you do realize there's a database that allows you to look up anyone's house? If you buy a house, the house will be posted in this database with your picture. I can easily find where Brendan Benson and Ben Folds live too. It's public information. If anyone was going to bother Jack White, they were already going to do it, Kelly didn't do anything wrong.

I live in Nashville and had absolutely no idea that my favorite artist, Jack White, had moved here, that's great! I wonder if we'll be treated to some impromptu performances at Tootsies or The Bluebird Cafe? One can only hope!

As for the negative Nancy's who have been posting in response, get a grip.
